Handbags Gladrags is a soulful album by Chase that showcases their unique blend of rock, blues, and funk influences. The album features 10 tracks, each with its own distinct sound and style.

The title track, "Handbags Gladrags," is a standout song that highlights the band's soulful vocals and powerful instrumentation. Other notable tracks include "So Many People," which features a catchy guitar riff and a memorable chorus, and "Get It On," which has a funky groove and a great horn section.

I saw them in 1974 at a Pizza Hut in Houston. Incredible. Bill played 2 trumpets at the same time!!! His Flugelhorn horn was magnificent.
Trivia: The first song of album One is "Open up Wide".The last song of album three was "Close up tight".
Then they were all killed in a plane crash. What a tremendous loss to the music industry and all of us fans

There was a Herman Herd performance on TV in London about 1964 giving a reading of WOODCHOPPERS BALL and at the end of it, Woody unchained the trumpeter and walked him out to the microphone where he blew some intense notes to close the number. That particular video is no longer there. But it lives in memory.

It makes me sad that this sort of music shortly lost out to bands who blew things up, wore outlandish makeup, and generally made their stage shows like cartoons.
Don't get me wrong - showmanship has always had a place in rock. But the lack of appreciation of MUSIC over sideshow antics created a music scene that mostly got what it demanded - derivative crap.

My friend Jay Burrid Mitthaur (sp) is their original drummer. We have shared many a gig together.

This album is part of my DNA. My dad (a trumpeter) was always playing this album and Maynard growing up in the 90s.

The lead trumpet reminds me of the theme to the green hornet 1966.

So all you 70s guys who were playing and really into this, how did you compare/contrast Bill Chase with Maynard?

I was a trumpet player in my youth playing in cover bands for Chicago, Blood, Sweat, and Tears etc. Correction: I was NOT a trumpet player. I would swear that these guys have trick horns. If I practiced a lifetime, I could never play like these guys. Bravo!!
