Review by Michael Dillinger

Florence Foster Jenkins was a socialite and amateur opera singer from the early 1900s. Despite her lack of vocal talent, she became a cult figure for her enthusiastic performances and eccentric personality. Her album, Aria Queen Of The Night Serenata Mexicana, showcases her unique style and love for opera.

The album features Jenkins' renditions of classic arias such as "The Queen of the Night" from Mozart's The Magic Flute and "Vissi d'arte" from Puccini's Tosca. Her voice may not be technically proficient, but it is full of emotion and sincerity. Her passion for the music is evident in every note she sings.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "La Paloma," a popular Mexican folk song. Jenkins' version is filled with charm and whimsy, and her attempt at singing the Spanish lyrics is endearing. Another highlight is "Voi che sapete" from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Jenkins' interpretation is playful and lighthearted, and she brings a sense of joy to the music.

She hired Carnegie Hall and gave a recital there. She was rich and loved to sing. What's the problem? She did hit a couple of the notes even ( almost) the last one!

That´s an interesting thought. If miss Foster-Jenkins is more known to the majority (and that might well be the fact) than say Monserrat Caballé or Birgit Nilson, then there´s no wonder so many hates shrieking opera ladys...

Such horrible pitch and tempo... Mozart would probably cry in his grave.

Well, at least the pianist is good.....
