The band's 2016 album, The Art of Loss, was marred by founding guitarist Nick Van Dyk's fight with multiple myeloma and chemotherapy and Bernie Versailles' hiatus from the band following a brain aneurysm that left him in coma enough to stop his contribution. The material continues to be Dream Theater-dependent, but the arrangements are more listenable, and Alder here sings better than he has ever had for ages.

It's a pretty decent album but I don't really understand why it's better than "The Astonishing". But I won't argue with you. I'm trying not to be that typical DT fan that thinks everything is below their material but that album did change my life. I listen to it about 5 times per week, no exaggeration haha.

still have the same ghost reveries. forever mirin.
Loving the guitars on Thirty Silver in particular. Some other great tunes on there too. The style of Redemption is still there but with a heavier and more technical element, which is fine by me. good s***

Cover Killer! You are such a keen and savvy music listener and appreciator. I agree with everything you've said about this album and Redemption in general. The Art Of Loss just Oozes out quality from every possible goddamn musical hole you can think of! I am just as adamant and passionate as you are and I do feel, like you, this rivals DT's The astonishing for album of the year so far. Headspace's: all that you fear is gone is another 2016 gem too. 2016 is bloody pleasure overload in music thus far. I can't contain myself. ???

Well, 'Snowfall on Judgement Day pt. 2' it isn't, but it is way better than 'The Astonishing.' and on par with Myrath's new output.

CKN 100/100 on all points about this band which once was one of Ray Adler's side bands to Fates Warning has really become in my opinion his 2nd band and they are Grossly Underrated!

This is an exceptionally well executed album.
You're right they are very underrated. I love this record.

It's a shame these guys don't get as much love as some other more well known prog rock/metal outfits. But these guys are right up there. One thing though,Nick Van Dyk is also the lead guitar player in Redemption. Bernie and him always exchanged solos and Nick does a lot of the song writing as well in Redemption.

It's epic to see the three ex Megadeth maestros on this album but quiet frankly I am not surprised to see Chris Poland on this. Chris Poland has been part of two bands that are Progressive in nature. One is OHM and the other was the short lived but amazing band Damn The Machine.

Great review man for an incredible album.
